Surviving the Recent Tech Layoffs: My Process for Finding Jobs as an UX UI Designer

With the recent wave of tech layoffs, many professionals are finding themselves in a difficult position when it comes to finding new opportunities. As a UX UI designer, I've experienced the challenges firsthand, but I've also discovered some helpful tips and tricks that I want to share.

One of the biggest challenges is that many job postings are turning out to be ghost job postings. These are job listings that companies post even though they are not currently hiring. It's important to keep this in mind as you apply to job after job and don't receive a response. Don't give up hope, and don't assume that you're in the wrong field. Keep applying and stay positive.

Here are some tips that I've collected along the way:

Look beyond job boards: While sites like Indeed are useful, keep in mind that many smaller or less tech-savvy companies may not post their opportunities there. Use LinkedIn's Sales Navigator feature or search for positions in the format of "position you want" AND hiring to uncover opportunities that may not be listed on job boards.

Build your portfolio: A strong portfolio can make all the difference in landing your dream job. Take the time to invest in yourself and create a portfolio that showcases your skills and experience.

Don't be afraid to ask for help: Your network is there to support you, so don't hesitate to reach out for help. Making connections and building relationships can be key to finding new opportunities.

Build a social media presence: While it may seem daunting, having a social media presence can help you stand out to potential employers. Start sharing your work and putting yourself out there to be found.

Remember, you're not alone in your job search. Stay positive, keep applying, and leverage the resources available to you. By following these tips and staying persistent, you'll be well on your way to finding your next great opportunity
